To us a pot roast should be full of flavor and so tender that you do not need a knife. After some experimenting we came up with this. We used Dr Pepper as the soda because it is not as sweet. You can not taste the soda in the roast. But you can taste it in the broth. So if you wish to make gravy from the broth you will need to add some beef base to get rid of the sweetness.
You will need:
1 pot roast (we used chuck, but some use sirloin tip)
1 pack dry onion soup mix
1 can of soda (experiment!) we used Dr Pepper
Place your roast in the crock pot. Pour onion soup mix and soda over the roast. Cook on low for 8 – 9 hours or high for 2 hours and then low for 6 hours.
Enjoy!
